Trip Overview

The Lobuche East Peak Climbing Trek falls within the Khumbu region of Nepal, sharing many common stops to the standard Everest Base Camp trek. This peak stands 6119 meters tall, which was first climbed by Laurence Nielson and Ang Gyalzen, his Sherpa, all the way back in 1984. Since this peak does not reach extreme heights over 7000 or 8000 meters, and climbing it is fairly easy, it has been graded as a trekking peak by the NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association).

Despite its fairly easy climb, it will still be tiring and exhausting since we will be climbing a Himalayan peak. But it is very doable, experienced trekkers with basic mountaineering skills can complete this trek without any major issues. The peak climbing ascent will be rough as we traverse icy slopes, glaciers, rocky grounds, and ice walls to reach the summit. From the top, we will enjoy a one-of-a-kind view of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Everest peaks.

The itinerary we have proposed below takes you on a cultural tour as well. We will pass by many Sherap villages and stay at a handful, to experience their daily activities and practices first-hand. Village such as Tengboche, Pangbcohe, Chhukung, Pheriche, etc. offer a great insight into the Sherap culture and tradition. You might even get to see Sherpa cultural performance is lower region villages such as Lukla and Namche Bazaar.

In addition to climbing the Lobuche East Peak, we will also visit the Everest Base Camp, along with a bunch of monasteries en route. The gompas, chortens, and mani walls displays the great influence of Tibetan Buddhism in the region. Visiting the highland monasteries will be a spiritual and peaceful side tour.

Our Lobuche East Peak Climbing Trek is one of the best options for you if you want to experience climbing a peak that is very manageable yet rewarding. Here’s a comprehensible and detailed guide on our trek package, so you can really understand what you can expect from this journey.

This day will also be used for preparing for the trek, Adventure Tansen’s expert guides will brief you on the trek you are about to take. You should ask your queries and pack your luggage accordingly. The next day (Day 3), we will get on a flight to Lukla, to start our trek.

Difficulty

The Lobuche East Peak Climbing Trek is a moderately difficult journey that takes you to the Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, and has you reach 6119 meters of maximum altitude at the top of Lobuche East Peak. The standard EBC trek itself is a moderately difficult trek, adding a peak climbing journey to it creates a challenging Himalayan journey that will test your physical preparation. The ascent to the peak is the hardest part of the trek as we will have to climb steep ice slopes and trek rugged paths.

Best seasons

Spring is one of the best options for this Lobuche East Peak Climbing Trek since it offers stable weather conditions such as clear sies and low chances of rainfall. In addition to that, the visibility is great with an average daytime temperature of 10°C to 15°C, a chilly but comfortable trekking condition. This season lasts from March to May and offers a vibrant trekking landscape with blooming flowers all over.

The Autumn season is another best option to do the Lobuche East Peak Climbing Trek. This post-monsoon period offers the best visibility with very minimal chance of rainfall, the lowest of any season. Popular for its stable weather and comfortable daytime temperature, this season is also the festive period in Nepal. You might get to celebrate a few festivals with the locals.

Altitude Sickness

This Lobuche East Peak Climbing Trek features a maximum altitude of 6119 meters with 2 nights at over 5000 meters of elevation, at Gorakshep and Lobuche Base Camp. It is well known that altitude sickness creeps in when your climb high without proper acclimatization practice and spend the night. But we will not be making the mistake of ignoring the preventice measures.

Adventure Tansen’s trek guide will make sure that you follow the preventive measures, and he will also check your blood oxygen levels to see any early signs of altitude sickness. We will also practice climb high and sleep low technique along with 2 different acclimatization days throughout the trek.

Accommodation, Food and Drink

Accommodation during the trekking days of the Lobuche East Peak Climbing Trek will be at tea houses where you will get the basic facilities and a couple more services like laundry, WiFi, and hot shower. Every accommodation we arrange will be done in a twin-sharing basis which means you will share the room with a fellow trekkers; there will be two separate beds. If you do not feel comfortable sharing rooms, we can also arrange private rooms at a price.

The best food options during this trek are local dishes and vegetarian options. We recommend trekkers to stick to a vegetarian diet as some eateries do not have freezer to store meat. However, you can ask the guide if it’s safe to consume meat from a certain eatery. We also recommend you try the local dishes and explore the different options as trying local delicacies is a huge part of any Himalayan trekking experience. Meanwhile, your drink options are hot chocolate, ground coffee, hot tea, juice, canned drinks, soda, etc.

Transportation

Before the start of the trekking days, we will take you on sightseeing tour around Kathmandu in a private vehicle. To get to the starting point of the trek, we will take a flight to Lukla, and at the end of the trek we will fly back to Kathmandu.
